Hair of the Day: Faux Bob

Hello everyone! Today, I decided to go with a faux bob. I've been missing my short hair lately and contemplating the chop. I don't think I'm going to go for it, however, this is a fun way to try short hair for the day.

This works best with second day hair, because the curls hold best with a little dirtiness. Before bed, I curled my hair into ringlets with a 3/4 inch curler, then rolled and pinned the curls to my head. This morning, I let the curls down. This lead to a nice, tight curl. Then, I took the bottom, longer layers of my hair and rolled them halfway up and pinned them up. I let my top layers down, creating the short hair effect. I pinned any loose ends to the nape of my neck and then lightly hair-sprayed the ends.

This was a really easy hairstyle that only took 15 minutes in the morning. It definitely was fun to go back to my short hair for a day!

OOTD: Sweater Weather, FINALLY!

Hello everyone! Happy Fall! It finally feels like fall here in Michigan. The leaves started changing colors over the weekend and its finally getting a little chilly. Sweater weather anyone? I loved feeling the wind all last night through my window and couldn't wait to get snuggly in my favorite oversized sweater this morning.

I got this sweater last year from H&M. Its dark grey and white and has little gold treads running through it too. And yes, its a women's sweater! Remember how I said that oversized women's sweaters still had HUGE necks? This one has that problem. But no problem, its an excuse to throw on a scarf. I got this taupey-pink scarf from ebay. It has a floral/paisley pattern in dark jewel tones which makes it perfect for fall.

I love taking pictures as I fall over. Pun intended.
I finished off this look with my comfy skinny jeans and my everyday TOMs. It actually got pretty chilly outside so I threw on a jacket later when I went to class.

My hair was inspired by Vanessa Hudgens. Obviously, her braids are bigger and more messy because her hair is longer. I really liked how red and autumnal my braids look. It was so windy today and this style is super super low maintenance.

Makeup! I did my eyes with the Naked Basics palette, and lined my top lash line with black liquid eyeliner and my bottom waterline with a dark purple eyeliner. I noticed that dark purple gives a softer look, which I especially like when I am wearing dark lips. Today's is Dark Side by MAC. This one has an amplified finish, which is similar to the cremesheen colors. I'm wearing Essie's Bahama Mama on my nails, which is a beautiful deep berry color.

Thanks for reading! And as always, stay tuned!

OOTD: Apple Orchard

Hello everyone! I hope your weekend is going well. You guys know how much I love fall (hopefully), and one of my favorite fall traditions is going to the apple orchard. I love seeing all the little kids running around, the smell of apple cider everywhere, and the hay rides. I spent all day there and after sunset, I went on a haunted hay ride (that wasn't too scary).

Posin' with machines
I loved my outfit yesterday. I thought it would be chillier because it has been rainy here in Michigan. But I decided to ask Siri as usual and she informed me it was actually around 75 degrees.

As usual, I wanted to maintain comfort because I'd be in this outfit almost all day. I went with a floral dress and cardigan. The dress is from Forever 21. Floral patterns are very reminiscent of spring, and I usually avoid them in the fall. I thought this dress was the perfect fall floral because of the black background and the darker colored flowers on it.

This dress was so classic I could not resist it in the store. It was cut perfectly at the waist and I loved how the neckline is square (something you don't see very often anymore). I paired the dress with my grey suede boots and dark jeggings.

I added a burgundy cardigan on top to cover up (the dress is sleeveless), and a burgundy scarf as well. I've been hearing that "burgundy is the new black" and I couldn't agree more. I love how it adds a punch of color to any outfit that could be easy accessorized with black instead.

I carried this small muted teal bag from Urban Outfitters that has gold embellishments. I curled my hair with my hair straightener and brushed it out with my fingers. As usual, I'm wearing Diva lipstick by MAC. This outfit was very comfortable, and I felt so confident and cute in it.

So thats that for my (first) apple orchard trip this season. I had so much fun and can't wait to return soon enough!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

OOTD: Comfy Wednesday

Hello! Thanks for stopping by! So on Wednesday, after only a couple hours of sleep, and job training to get to, I had no energy to dress up. My outfit was very simple and comfy for a(nother) long day.

Bottom to top again? Okay! On my feet are tall suede boots I got ages ago from Payless (I think?). They're grey and super comfy. However, over the years, they've gotten "soft" and don't hold up as well. I've been stuffing them with newspaper so they keep their shape. I'm wearing jeggings from Love Culture and on top a super long flowy black t-shirt dress.

My cardigan is from Forever 21's plus size collection, and is a thick knit black sweater with a taupe design bordering the bottom. It was great for the chilly rooms I was in all day.

Roo was creepin and OBVIOUSLY wanted a picture
I straightened my hair the night before and left it down. On my head are white heart-shaped sunglasses (not sure where I got them). My kitten is from an animal adoption agency (if you get anything, get one of these guys).

Pardon my nails

I finished off the look with a long gold owl necklace. I love how he's super colorful and how big and glittery his eyes are. I think he adds a cute touch to any simple outfit.

So that is that! Enjoy the rest of your day and stay tuned!

OOTD: Prints and Lace

Hi everyone! Long time no post. I hope everyone's week is going well. I'm finally through with my first round of exams and I think I did pretty well (yay!). First of all:

  • NYX WICKED DREAMS MINI REVIEW: awesome palette, awesome fall colors, worth the price for sure. I actually ended up returning it simply because I didn't really need it (I have a pretty extensive makeup collection already). But I would 100% recommend it to anyone looking for a great fall palette.
Okay, now that my promised review is out of the way, on to the OOTD! This is actually what I wore yesterday (Tuesday). I will either have today's OOTD up tomorrow. Then we'll be on track again (YAY!). So on Tuesdays I have a long day of classes, starting at 9:30 am and ending at 4:30 pm. I need to be comfortable enough for all the stress I deal with all day (and comfortable enough to sleep in class? KIDDING!)

Don't tell my mom I was standing on furniture please
Lets go bottom to top today. I slipped into my black canvas TOMs which have become a staple for me. I love love love these shoes and recommend them to everyone! They retail for $42.00. That can be pricey for some people (including me), but I think their ONE-FOR-ONE program is absolutely amazing. Click the link to read more about it! My jeans are from Forever 21. They are grey with a light pink floral pattern. I know a lot of people are afraid of printed pants, so I suggest getting some in neutral colors like these if you want to experiment. On top I have a lace long sleeve shirt (also F21), with a plain black cami layered under.

I thought it would be interesting to pair the jeans with a textured top instead of a plain one. I think the overall look was pretty girly and casual. I threw on a cardigan to tone down the lace a little (and also because I get cold easily). My necklace is a plastic pair of hipsta frames.

I had an audience when shooting. Poor thing fell asleep. Do you see him?

I absolutely loved how my hair turned out. It was curled from the day before and I didn't want to deal with it, so I threw it all on top of my head in a messy bun thing. To add a special touch, I clipped a big lace bow that I got from Claire's to the back. I think this adds an unexpected twist and dresses up the look. I think my ombre and highlights looked pretty fancy too.

Thats all for my Tuesday OOTD. Enjoy the rest of your night and stay tuned!

OOTD: Mens Sweaters and Bold Scarves

Hello beautiful people. When I woke up today, I had no idea what to wear. Tigger was enjoying the weather by my window, so I assumed it would be nice and warm. NOPE! Siri informed me very kindly that it would be nice and crisp in the 60s today. No complaints though, I love fall weather. I only had one class to go to today, and then work right after, so I wanted something extra comfy.

yuck monday.
I bought this sweater at H&M in July on a shopping spree with one of my friends. It was only 10 dollars, so I knew I had to get it for the fall and it's been in the back of my closet since. The best part? It's from the guy's section! I love love love guys clothes. They just seem to be so much more comfortable than most of the form fitting clothes you tend to find in the women's section. I've also noticed that if a women's item is supposed to be "oversized" it is oversized EVERYWHERE, including the neckline, so the sweaters tend to go all over the place. Guy sweaters, on the other hand, are supposed to have smaller necks. I bought this sweater in a large. Its supposed to be form fitting for guys, so it fit nice and baggy on me. The color also makes it so versatile. I'm pretty sure I could wear this almost anywhere and with almost anything. Its nice and thick, but I had to take my burgundy moto jacket to trek across campus.

I paired the sweater with an amazing aztec print scarf I got from Charlotte Russe. There are shades of burgundy, red, orange, yellow, brown, and grey. Its definitely one of my favorites. On my feet are my everyday shoes: the classic black canvas TOMS. I carried my burnt orange messenger bag from JustFab.com. While the bag is amazing, I hate the website and their service. I got this bag because they forced a credit on me. Every month, they charge your credit card 40 dollars if you do not "pass" by the 5th. Unfortunately, I was unable to get to a computer by D-Day and ended up being charged 40 dollars that they would not refund. Even worse, it says NO WHERE in their terms and conditions that they will not refund the money. Annoying.

Lipstick: Diva by MAC

I kept my hair curly and pinned one side back. Nice and simple. As you may have read in my last post, I just went on a trip to Ulta (bad bad idea). My friend Maisha (read her blog here) and I decided to get the NYX Wicked Dreams palette on a whim. I did my eye makeup with a few of the matte brown/peaches in the palette. I'll have a full review up soon! I used a peachy Sephora blush on my cheeks (which you can't really see in the photo) to complement the scarf. My favorite part of this look was definitely the lipstick. MAC's Diva is a beautiful matte lipstick. It ranges from brown to burgundy to red, based on the light you're in. Its perfect for fall and I love how soft it is, especially for a matte lipstick.

So thats all for my soopa comfy Monday outfit. My next post will be a review on NYX's Wicked Dreams palette. Stay tuned!

Manicure Monday: Revlon Chalkboard Nails + Review

Happy Monday! Who am I kidding. Mondays don't deserve exclamation points. At least I only have once class I suppose. Anyway, this week I have not one, not two, but THREE exams. I might just die. So after a busy and stressful weekend of studying and whatnot, I sat down last night and painted my nails. During one study break, my friends and I went to ULTA (bad bad idea), and I stocked up on base and top coats for my nails, as well as a few new polishes. I also got the NYX Wicked Dreams palette on a whim. I'll post a review of it soon! I got this nail art polish duo by Revlon. Its part of their chalkboard nails collection that came out around back to school time.

Revlon Chalkboard Nail Art Duo in Overacheiver
I decided to go with chalkboard nails for exam week (yay themes!). So the first thing I did was apply my base coat (I use one by ULTA). Then, I applied the black polish. The polish has a matte finish to give it that "chalkboard" effect. I had to apply two to three coats to get it opaque enough. I noticed that the black polish got thicker the longer the bottle was open, so I'm a little wary about how many uses I'll get out of this polish. After letting the black base dry, I started painting my chalkboard designs with the pale pink polish on the other side. The colored side has a thin brush, which I wish was a bit thinner. However, I had good control of the brush, which is pretty amazing considering I'm a newbie to nail art. The pale pink wasn't that opaque, but I think that allowed for more of a chalkboard effect.

Doodle doodle doodle
I decided to go with a different doodle on each nail, using polka dots, zig zags, diagonal lines, tic tac toe boards, plaid, and a star and heart on my ring fingers. I was a little scared to do my right hand (I even asked my little brother),  but I think I did a pretty good idea.

I finished with a matte top coat (also by Revlon) to seal in the designs while keeping the chalkboardiness. I'm not sure if I would repurchase this product. I think its a cute idea for once in a while, but its easily replicable with any black polish and accent color, as long as you have a matte top coat available. I'd give this product 4/5 stars, just because of how little polish you get for the price (9 dollars!) and also how the black thickened up. All that set aside, this is a cute product, and I love how my nails turned out.

Thanks for reading and good luck to anyone with exams this week!
